L’oro di scampia

Loosely inspired by the true story of Pino and Gianni Maddaloni, the film follows Gianni — a determined man committed to proving that redemption is possible through sport, discipline, legality and respect for the rules. A judo master, he has long been a father figure to countless at-risk youths who might otherwise fall prey to the Camorra. Despite hardship, setbacks and defeat, Gianni succeeds in pulling dozens of lost young men away from organized crime. Alongside them, he guides his son Pino to the pinnacle of international sport, culminating in a gold medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games in judo. The project explores themes of legality, the transformative power of sport in the lives of disadvantaged youth, and the enduring strength of a father’s resolve.
